Vernon Johns' Junior High School has adopted a new daily school schedule. The daily schedule is
from 7:25 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This will not affect educational time requirements and will not
affect student home pickup nor student home arrival times.

R.E.A.C.H. Tutorial and Enrichment Program
VJ has began a R.E.A.C.H. Tutorial and Enrichment Program from 8:35am to 9:35am on Fridays.
The purpose of this program is to provide extra assistance to students who were not
successful during the interim period. It is also designed to encourourage
students to perform better to earn their way out of tutorial. For more

"Sheriffs Luncheon"




The Petersburg Sheriffs Department attended a lunch with the students and faculty at Vernon Johns Junior High on
Friday, Dececember 16th. We thank the Sheriffs office for fostering community involvement, community
awareness, and student participation with our law enforcement officers. We would also like to recognize
and thankOfficer Harris, Officer Burnett, and Officer Hill for their dedication and service in making
Vernon Johns Junior High School a safe and peaceful school for all students , staff, and visitors
on a daily basis. More luncheon opportunities with the PCPD and the Vernon Johns Junior High School
student body will take place throughout the 2011 - 2012 school year.
“The Mighty Jaguars”
The Athletic Program at Vernon Johns Junior High is proud to announce the return of its freshman grade boys’ basketball team. The program is not only about athletics & basketball but is correspondingly about academics & scholastic performance. On Mondays through Thursdays from 2:30 – 4:15 pm, except on game day, the team will be studying, tutored, or completing homework assignments in the Vernon Johns Library. Student visitors from Howard University held a question and answer session with the basketball team during study period on November 18th, 2011. Below are "The Mighty Mighty Jaguars" basketball team as well as visiting tutors from Howard University. Thank you Dr. Watson for bringing the basketball team back and we thank the Howard University visitors for being part of the Vernon Johns community. Good luck team. We are behind you and your success!!

TEST TAKING TIPS
- Be Prepared: Study, Focus, Read. When you think you are finished, study and read some more.
- Be Positive : A good attitude always brings out your best.
- Follow Directions: Listen to all directions. Read all directions.
- Look for "CUE WORDS": Sometimes the words are Capitalized, underlined, or can lead you to the answer. Some words are except, most, least, the best answer.
- Relax: Trust yourself. You have studied. You know the material.
- Underline: Underscore certain words to help you focus and remember.
- Make a Connection: Ask yourself what are the things that you know about the question.
- Read the Question: Give yourself some direction on what the problem is asking.
- Read the Answers: Give yourself some direction on what the answer could be.
- Take a Mental Break: Take a moment to refresh your mind by doodling or thinking about a great moment in your life.
